In the US, the Biden administration is looking for a way to legally grant citizenship to the children of illegal immigrants. In this regard, the White House said that they took this decision after a group of Indian-dominated youth expressed fear that they could be extradited when they turn 21.
These children are seen in the documents as potential for citizenship. They have long lived in the US as dependents of visa holders, including nonimmigrant H-1B workers. The H-1B visa is a nonimmigrant visa that allows US companies to employ foreign workers in specific sectors. Tech companies employ tens of thousands of employees every year from countries like India and China through this visa.
A White House spokesman said President Joe Biden wants America’s immigration system to be reformed. It will also include reforms in the visa process. The immigration bill will be sent to Congress for approval. In this bill, H-1B visa holders and their children will not be allowed to exceed their age to authenticate.
A group called ‘Improve the Dream’ represents two lakh children, the majority of which are Indian children. According to US law, children dependent on parents are exempt from immigration, but they are extradited from the US if they do not get citizenship by the time they turn 21. Such parents remain in the US waiting for a green card for a long time. A green card is a permanent resident card in the US. This document is available to lawful immigrants who have the opportunity to become a permanent resident in the US.
