In Punjab, the tussle between the camps of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and State Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu has reached a climax. Ministers and MLAs belonging to the Sidhu camp have raised the flag of rebellion against Captain and launched a campaign to remove him. In a meeting of four cabinet ministers and 21 MLAs, it has been decided to increase the pressure on the high command to remove Captain from the post. Sidhu has also prepared a strategy by meeting with the four ministers and senior leaders angry with the Captain. Sidhu’s supporters opened a front against the captain Sidhu himself has opened a front against the captain, far from removing the advisors after the controversial statements.
The Congress has also got confused by the revolt against Captain as preparations were being made to make Captain the face of the party in the assembly elections to be held next year. Leaders belonging to both the camps are leaving the preparations for the assembly elections and are playing political tricks to overthrow each other, which has dealt a tremendous blow to the party’s electoral prospects. There was silence for a few days after Sidhu’s coronation as the state president of Punjab Congress, but now it is clear from the war that started between the Captain and Sidhu camps that the party’s dispute has deepened. The captain had attacked Sidhu’s advisors for making controversial statements, but Sidhu has kept quiet and did not even express any regret on the statement of his advisors. Later both the advisors opened a direct front against the Captain. Now ministers and MLAs belonging to the Sidhu camp have also jumped into the arena and have launched a campaign to remove the Captain from the post. According to sources related to the Congress, the opposition camp will meet Sonia Gandhi. According to sources, four cabinet ministers of Captain Sarkar Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Sukhwinder Singh Sarkaria, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa and Charanjit Singh Channi and about 21 MLAs decided their upcoming strategy by meeting at Bajwa’s residence. . According to experts, in this meeting, it was decided to increase the pressure on the high command to remove the captain from the post. After the meeting, Bajwa said time would be sought from Congress President Sonia Gandhi to inform about the political situation in the state.
He said that the time has come for the state to take strong measures. If there is a need to change the Chief Minister, then the party high command will have to think in this direction also. After the meeting, Minister Channi said that the leaders present in the meeting expressed concern about the promises which have not been fulfilled so far. Alleging that the Captain did not fulfill the promises, Minister Channi said that Congress President Sonia Gandhi would be apprised of the views of the state party leaders. He told that Bajwa, Randhawa, Sarkaria and State Congress Committee General Secretary Pargat Singh will meet Congress President Sonia Gandhi and inform her about the current political situation in the state. All these leaders are considered to be of the anti-Captain Amarinder Singh camp. Channi said that even after winning the 2017 assembly elections, all the promises made by the Captain Government have not been fulfilled yet. After a lapse of time, we are now convinced that the promises made by the party will not be fulfilled. Alleging complicity with Akali Dal, he said that former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Badal were questioned by the SIT in the Kotkapura police firing case, but no action was taken after that.
When asked about the demand for the removal of the Chief Minister, Channi said that it is not just an effort but the demand of everyone associated with the party and it should be fulfilled. He said that one thing has struck a chord in the hearts of the people in Punjab that the Captain is in collusion with the Akali Dal and this perception has done a lot of damage to the Congress. And the war of both the camps will be intense. Preparations for opening the front against the Captain were already being done from within by the Sidhu camp. After meeting Sidhu, his advisors started making personal attacks on the Captain. It was clear from this stand of the advisors that Sidhu has waged an open war against Capt. Despite the request from the Captain, Sidhu did not restrain his advisors, but gave them a kind of complete freedom to attack the Captain. It is clear from Tuesday’s developments that the Congress has been torn apart in Punjab. The troubles of the party leadership have also increased with the internal strife in the Congress reaching its peak. There is a possibility of more attacks on each other from both the sides in the coming days. Ahead of next year’s assembly elections in the state, an open war broke out in the Congress, which is expected to deal a major blow to the party’s electoral prospects.
