Under the scheme, about 80 crore ration card holders of the country covered under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) are being provided five kg of free food grains (wheat or rice) per member. Apart from this, one kg of pulses is also being given. This five kg food grain is being given in addition to the food grains already available on the ration card. If five kg of food grains per member has been available on a ration card till before this scheme, then now ten kg of food grains will be available per member, of which five kg will be absolutely free. The scheme aims to help people belonging to the economically weaker sections. Priority is being given to hawkers, rickshaw pullers, migrants and road dwellers.

free ration schemes in the world

Every day around 69 crore people in the world are forced to sleep hungry stomach. In particular, the food crisis in African countries remains high. Famine, unrest and geographical conditions are the main reasons for this. Under the World Food Program (WFP) of the United Nations, free food grains are being distributed in 82 countries for the past several years. Now giving it a new look, instead of food grains, it is being changed in the system of distribution of cash or vouchers. According to the WFP website, this is also due to the elimination of malnutrition. By giving cash or vouchers, the needy can not only satisfy hunger but also choose nutritious food for themselves and their children. WFP gets financial help from many countries of the world. Along with this, many organizations also cooperate in providing free food grains to the people. In the Middle East country, Egypt also ran a food subsidy scheme for a long time with the aim of social equality and political stability. At one time, the government there used to spend 5.6% of its total expenditure on this scheme. By 1997, this amount was more than a billion dollars.
