New technology can accurately detect lung cancer, developed at DELFI, Johns Hopkins Cancer Center

Researchers have got great success in the direction of accurate identification of cancer i.e. lung cancer. They have developed a new Artificial Intelligence (AI) blood testing technique, which can accurately identify this deadly disease in samples. According to the researchers, this method of testing has been found to be more than 90 percent accurate in detecting lung cancer in people’s blood samples.

Researchers at the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center in the US have developed a new artificial intelligence blood testing technique. Under this research 800 people were studied, some of whom were cancer patients and some were not. This test procedure is named DELFI (DNA evaluation of fragments for early interception).

The Johns Hopkins Cancer Center of America has developed this AI blood testing technology. Through this method of examination, cancer cells present in the blood are looked at. The technique was tested on blood samples from 796 participants, many of whom were vulnerable to cancer, while some were not suffering from the disease. The investigation analyzed several factors of disease, including a protein biomarker. With the help of this technique, up to 94 percent of cancers were detected in those patients in whom the disease was in various stages.

Cancer is recognized even in the early stages

Lung cancer was diagnosed 96 percent accurately in patients with the last stage of the disease. Whereas 91 percent of the disease was detected in those patients in whom lung cancer was in the initial stage. Every year around two million people die of lung cancer in the world. The results of the study will be published in the August issue of the journal Nature Communications.
